Amira Willighagen – “Kirsten Flagstad 2.0” – 2013
Published on Nov 14, 2013
Some world-renowned music critics have said that Amira Willighagen brings back to life “THE Voice of the 20th Century”, Kirsten Flagstad (1895-1962, in this recording with Händel’s “Ombra Mai Fu”) or Maria Callas (1923-1977), and can’t wait to queue up for tickets to listen to Amira at The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Carnegie Hall or The Met in New York over the years to come.
Amira Willighagen, only 9 years old, made her worldwide debut exactly 100 years after Kirsten Flagstad made her debut as opera singer at 18 years of age, on 12th December 1913.
Amira won a “Golden Ticket” during her Auditions for “Holland’s Got Talent” on October 26th 2013, sending her straight to the Semi-Finals.
During the (Semi-)Finals of Holland’s Got Talent, on 21 and 28 December 2013, Amira Willighagen plans to sing some more of her repertoire, including the following 3 Songs:
1) “Ombra Mai Fu” (“Never was a shade”), the opening aria from the 1738 opera Serse by George Frideric Händel, as played beautifully by Agnes on her violin here:
2) “Una Furtiva Lagrima” (“A furtive tear”), the romanza from act 2, scene 8 of the Italian opera L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti, listen here:
3) “Nella Fantasia” (“In my fantasy”), a song in Italian based on the theme “Gabriel’s Oboe” from the film The Mission (1986), with music by Ennio Morricone and lyrics by Chiara Ferraù, as played beautifully by Agnes on her violin here:
Do Vote for Amira during the Semi-Finals of Holland’s Got Talent on 21 December 2013, if you love to see Amira return during the Finals (28 Dec) and hear it all !!!
Both the Semi-Finals as well as the Finals will be Broadcasted Live on TV in The Netherlands. See further details on the broadcasting times on this Youtube Channel Page.
Although Amira became a global star overnight, Amira told reporters that she still remains a normal person: “I still play outside with Fincent (her brother) and still have to clean the cat’s box !” 😉
Amira also said she would like to share the money she will earn with poor children in Africa:
Amira never had any singing lessons, and taught herself singing just by watching Youtube Videos of the ones in this world that inspired her, over and over again, to eventually reach the heights of the likes of Montserat Caballé and Maria Callas.
We can’t wait to see Amira perform again on 21st December (semi-finals) and 28th December 2013 (finals) and see what she picked up from her “Youtube Teachers”.
